An Example of Party Extremism
OR
How the Left Wing Party Nazi’s were George Bush’s Best Friend
Party extremism is perhaps the primary causes of government gridlock. It is the primary reason bad politicians get elected and the Party Nazi mentality is the primary source of power for all politicians, knowing that no matter what they do 30 to 40 percent of the electorate is going to vote for them anyway. This means they only need to fool about 20% of the voters, and only until the day after election day. The obligation elected officials have to the base of their party and to the extremist base is the major reason our Congress is polarized and incapable of making any decisions that can truly benefit Americans. A few wealth contributors can often control a state or local election for Senate or Congress. These extremists, wealthy or not, have a continued to have a negative effect on America’s future and are directly and indirectly responsible for the political hate that divides this country.
One obvious example of the effect party extremists can have on American politics is the result of the year 2000 presidential election. As we all know, George Bush was elected president by a few hundred votes in the state of Florida, giving him enough electoral votes to win the election. As it turns out, the left-wing Party Nazis were George Bush’s best friend and probably the reason he won that election, without their actions during the Clinton Administration, Florida’s hanging chads would never have been an issue.
After President Bill Clinton made a complete fool of himself by first having, then denying, his affair with Monica Lewinsky, lying to Congress, lying to the American people, and lying to anyone else that would listen, America was pretty disgusted with his antics. Add to that the public and personal character assassination of other woman that spoke up about other actions they had experienced from Bill which included accusations of various types of sexual misconduct and even forced violent rape, Clinton embarrassed this country in the eyes of the world and had left a great many Americans in disgust.
Yet the Party Nazis rallied to his side. Instead of doing what was right for America (and the Democratic Party) and insisting that he step down as president, the left-wing Party Nazi’s stood by Clinton while he dragged America through the mud for almost 4 years. They made excuses about why he lied, they tried to rationalize his behavior, demonize and belittle any who spoke up about his actions and even tried to justify his lies to Congress.
So when the 2000 election rolled around, the biggest problem Al Gore had was trying to overcome the stench of the Clinton legacy. Despite the fact that George Bush was a pitiful presidential candidate, Clinton’s self centered actions were something Al Gore was not quite able to overcome. Consequently America elected the only alternative, George W. Bush, who will probably go down in history as one of the worst presidents this country has ever had.
Now this scenario….. If the leaders of the Democratic Party and the Democrats in Congress had stood up and insisted the Bill step down and let Al Gore take over as president, Gore could have run as the incumbent president against George Bush. All Gore would’ve had to do is to be just an average president for the remainder of Clinton’s term. If Gore had been president for, let’s say, three years without any major catastrophes, he would’ve won the 2000 election. At that time the economy was good, we were not in any wars, and life looked pretty good in America. Running as “Mr. President” with a good economy and the country at peace, Al Gore could easily have beaten George Bush by a couple of percentage points, or a couple of million votes. Instead he lost by a few hundred votes in 1 swing state.
We can all thank the Party Nazis for doing their part to give us the war in Iraq and all the other problems created by the Bush presidency. I don’t know whether Al Gore would’ve been a better president than George Bush, but I do know he could not have been any worse. And the most deplorable part of this whole scenario is that Bill Clinton, the man who gave Democrats a decade of embarrassment and defeat, is still incredibly popular among the Democrat party faithful. The Party Nazi mentality lives on!!
